If Google/Facebook/Tumblr/Other sites opposed to the bill coordinated to do this on the same day shit would hit the fan.

Reddit administrators have announced a “blackout” will be taken from 8am EST to 8pm EST to protest SOPA/PIPA. Instead, there will be links at the site regarding the danger of these two bills currently in Congress.
